About Me
I had always played with cameras when I was younger, but I knew little what I was doing, because I never understood the basics of photography. While I got some lucky shots, but compared with photos from magazines, I was left frustrated. When my favourite camera was stolen, I gave up photography completely.
Joining a traditional workshop in Black&White photography, I was lured in once again and refound my passion. Discovering the art of B&W photography and printing changed my life in many ways.
For over two years I had been imaging the world in shades of grey, patterns and structures. Finally, several years ago I stopped resisting progress and bought my first digital SLR and lazily browsed the manual, and arrived without really knowing how to use the camera but I started shooting immediately. After some initial hiccups, I began to understand the digital camera but needed follow-up manual reading to discover other functions.
There is still a long road ahead for me in photography. We should not fall into the technological trap of digital photography. After switching to digital I fired the shutter too many times without spending enough time evaluating light situation or composition. The digital photographer is always tempted to shoot first and choose later. Discipline is needed to avoid this temptation. The best way is to think you are still using a film camera. If there is a tip or advice I can share - continue to remind yourself of the basics of photography. Especially when boredom or frustration sets in.
After my past focus on B&W photography it was exhilarating to master a change in thinking. I discovered a world of colour and the challenges of capturing its nuances. I improved my way of subject selection for colour or B&W photography as well as to how to visualize and interpret a scene.
